Randie Kahl
Following her dream of always wanting to become an architect and encouraged by Deanne Keller, she left Old Lyme and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Architecture. Having practiced in southeastern Massachusetts and on Cape Cod, she is now focusing once again on her art.
“I’ve always been fascinated in light and how it creates form. I would look at monochromatic drawings and be amazed at how the complete absence of any line balanced with strong dark values made your eye create a form that would jump off the page.
A draftsmen like quality and precision is somehow imbedded in my soul and reinforced by my architectural training and foundation. I would like to achieve a more painterly quality. I am exploring new uses of colors and using thicker, unblended paint to achieve the same accurate drawing effect, but hopefully evoking more liveliness, movement and emotion”.

My passion to design and create was realized at the high school level, attending art classes, photography and a two year vocational school, studying commercial art. I went on to receive my degree in Graphic Design from Pratt Phoenix/Institute, New York, N.Y., gaining a solid understanding of the essential elements of good design. Both my commercial and fine art backgrounds have given me the capability to attain success in other facets of art & design and consequently enabled me to share my love of art with many others. Offering classes, workshops and weekly programs in fashion illustration, calligraphy, pastels, mixed media art for children, sculpting techniques, drawing, fine art, designing with polymer clay and art workshops.
My work has been exhibited in numerous juried shows, galleries, public venues and outdoor exhibitions. I have been honored with several awards including Honorable Mention Illustrators Portfolio; Tassy Walden Awards New Voices in Children’s Literature 2003, Shearer Award; Guilford Art League Annual Juried Show 2009; 2nd Place; Clinton Art Society Annual Juried Summer Exhibition 2011, Madison Art Society Annual Juried Show Award 2011, Artmajeur Silver Award; Artmajeur International 2008-2012; Honorable Mention; Manhattan Arts International Healing Power of Art ‘Positive Art That Lifts The Spirit’ 2012.
