September 20, 2023 – Griswold Pt, Old Lyme
Griswold Point is a private area closed to the public. Anne Pierson, an artist herself, gives us permission every year to paint at the point. It has an array of subjects to paint from old houses, gardens, fields, barns, and the Sound.
Street parking, bathroom facilities available.
Directions from Madison: I-95 to exit 70, (first exit after going over the CT River) turn right, south, on Rt 156 for approximately three miles, crossing the Lieutenant River, Duck River, and Black Hall River. As the road turns left, stay to the right onto Old Shore Road.
Griswold Point Lane is the second dirt lane on the right and has a line of mailboxes and two stone pillars. Anne Pierson’s house is the second on the right; on the left is a pond. The dirt road extends to the water. You can park along the roads, at Anne’s house or at the end towards the water and if the gate is open at the very end, you can walk down the field to the sound. Please don’t pull up on people’s lawns unless invited.
